Helen Webby & Davy Stuart | | Music for Celtic harp & guitar
Take the Principal harp from the Christchurch Symphony, add the multi-instrumental talents of one of New Zealand’s top Celtic musicians and you have a glorious instrumental combination, drawing the main part of their repertoire from the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland.
They have been playing as a duo for over six years in concerts, events and festivals all over NZ and are equally at home in a lounge or a Concert hall.
Featured guests at the 2004 Australian National Folk Festival, they completed a very succesful tour in early 2008 for Chamber Music NZ, including in their programme four pieces of new music from contemporary NZ composers which have been specially commissioned for them.
In performance they feature a gut-strung 34 string Neo-Irish lever harp made by Helen's brother Kim Webby and a steel-strung 6 string guitar and 10 string cittern made by Davy. When travelling, Helen sometimes uses a 34 string carbon fibre harp made by Davy.
They released a very successful recording “The Peacock’s Dance - Celtic music for harp and guitar” at the end of 2001 and have just released their much anticipated second CD, "The Golden Strand".
